Inspired by 19th-century European arcades like those in London, Paris, and Milan, The Well is a seven-building mixed-use complex that invites people from Toronto and beyond to “eat, shop, work, live, and play” under its extensive and connective canopy. Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, it is not only Canada’s most ambitious mixed-use endeavour, but also one of its most sustainable.
To coordinate and organize construction solutions for a sustainable multi-building large scale development.
As development manager of record, Knightsbridge coordinated and organized all aspects of construction from beginning to handover, including budget and schedule development and reporting, validating sub-trade tender and hiring, quality assurance, and cost controls. Our unique expertise in green building allowed us to advise on choice of materials, systems, and processes that meet and exceed sustainability standards.
The Well is connected to Enwave Energy’s Deep Lake Cooling System, eliminating the need for chillers throughout the development. The system was intentionally built to allow for future connection to neighbouring developments. Where possible, reclaimed materials such as brick and lumber were used, not only lowering environmental impact, but also connecting the development to the site’s history.
The development was completed in 2023 and received LEED Platinum certification, as well as Platinum WELL and WiredScore certifications for the office building.
